“But I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God. My times are in thy hand:deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.”
(Psalm 31:14,15)
God is in control of everything that happens in our lives. He controls the activities of
life—Birth, Life, and Death. We are grateful to serve a God who not only knows about
us, but also cares about us. The last few months have made us more aware of all these
truths than ever before. We have been able to draw upon God’s strength, and to find
His grace all sufficient.
Many of you are probably aware that Phyllis’ mother went home to be with the Lord
on June 19th. She had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer late last year and had
decided not to undergo chemo, radiation, or surgery. Instead she requested that doctors
keep her comfortable and pain free. God rearranged our schedule so we could be close
to her in the months prior to her death. We were in West Virginia for meetings between
mid-March and mid-May. This allowed us to visit with Mom and also continue in the
ministry of missionary evangelism.
Lars left in May to begin traveling by himself while Phyllis stayed with her Mom to be
involved in her care. When she passed away both Phyllis and her brother were with her.
She died peacefully in her home. The funeral was held in Parkersburg on June 28th. The
time following her homegoing were spent in taking care of her affairs, and distributing
her possessions. God went before us each step of the way and we were able to get back
on the road again on July 6th. It is wonderful to be back together again serving the Lord.
The rest of the summer was spent in ministry in Iowa. We were privileged to conduct 3
weeks of Vacation Bible School in Hudson, Bussey, and Red Oak. We saw several boys
and girls accept Christ as Savior. Praise the Lord for those who will be in heaven as a
result of those eternal decisions. Lars also spoke at a Junior Camp at Lake Darling in
July. There were 7 salvation decisions and numerous dedications of lives for service.
We are preparing for our meetings this fall. God has opened the door for us to return to
Colorado during the month of October. We are excited about the opportunities to share
the Word of God. Following our extended stay in Colorado we will be in Syracuse, KS,
then on to the Kansas City area for the rest of November. We will be in Kansas City to
enjoy Thanksgiving with 2 of our children and 7 of our 8 grandchildren.
Pray for us as God brings us to mind. Your prayers and support have been encouraging
to us during our time of loss. Your expressions of sympathy are gratefully acknowledged.
Sincerely in Christ,
Lars & Phyllis Wessberg
